Some Castle History

Yesterday morning I had a field trip (I know...I feel like I am back in 4th grade) to a war museum nearby. Before we left, Hubert the groundskeepers came on the bus and told us that he was coming with us. When we got to the museum, we found out that not only was Hubert a first sergeant in the military at one point, but the tank he used was in this museum. Really random, but cool.

Anyway, before we found out about Hubert's military background, we were asking him questions about the history of the castle. He told us that the castle as it stands today was built in the 1500s after the Eighty Years War, however the foundations are from the 12th century. The castle was built, and then torn down, and then built again and torn down, etc. Then in the 1500s they built what is there today and kept it. Since that time, it has been used as a number of different things including a military post for the British and I think maybe the Germans at one point. He said he still finds bullets and letters and other stuff hidden in the walls and the floors all over the castle. It's crazy how old this place is!

Going to Berlin this weekend. Tomorrow is the 18th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, so it should be really cool to be there for that. I have no class today because World Drama was canceled because we are going to see a show in Dutch tonight instead. However I now have the whole day to myself and I don't know what to do. Its 12:30 and I am already bored...Oh well, I live in a castle
